The American Women's Club in Denmark

The AWC is a non-profit, voluntary organization that provides social support to its members living permanently or temporarily in Denmark . Its activities promote mutual understanding between the US and Denmark . A primary purpose of the AWC is to raise money for philanthropy, cultural and educational awards. We encourage the American “spirit of volunteerism” among our membership by asking members to contribute time and energy to our fundraising and community efforts.

We have about 200 members, both men and women of numerous nationalities, though we are predominately American (65%) and predominantly women (95%).  We are a member organization of FAWCO, the Federation of American Women’s Clubs Overseas. FAWCO is a non-government organization (NGO) comprised of 70 clubs with nearly 18,000 members combined in 35 countries worldwide. FAWCO supports the interests of Americans overseas in areas such as citizenship and voting. It supports worldwide development grants for causes related to the health and welfare of women and children and offers educational scholarships.

Are you a cultural connoisseur?

Cultural Scholarship Award Co-ordinator, Clarice Scott

It is time to apply for an AWC Cultural Award in 2009. Please help us to find truly outstanding people or projects that will help an American in Denmark.

The award is offered every three years to an American citizen over 17 for a specific project or activity that contributes to cultural life in Denmark and can be completed within a year. The award was first given in 1970 and for a number of years was called the Arts Award. The name was changed in 1986 to include the broader range of possibilities that the term Culture covers. We have been able to help a great variety of cultural activities in the fields of science, literature, visual and performing arts, crafts, and furniture design. We have supported research and continuing education in many ways.

This is the only award our club gives that will benefit Americans and Denmark directly. So the Cultural Award Committee asks for your help in making this award known so we can find a project of high quality that really deserves our hard-earned money.  Use your networks!

Applicants can contact us at awcdenmark@gmail.com
